തുടക്കം മോശമായതാണ് പിന്നിലായിപ്പോകാന്‍ കാരണമെന്ന് ലാംബെ പറഞ്ഞു.എന്നിരുന്നാലും ആത്മവിശ്വാസം ഒരിക്കലും കൈവിട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. അതിനാലാണ് പൊരുതി നേടാനായത്.അതേസമയം, ഒളിമ്പിക് മെഡല്‍ നേടുന്ന ആദ്യ ഐറിഷ് വനിതാ റോവറുകള്‍ എന്ന നേട്ടം മറ്റുള്ള താരങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കരുത്തേകുമെന്ന് എമിലി ഹെഗാര്‍ട്ടി പറഞ്ഞു.

ഈ മത്സരത്തിൽ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയ്ക്ക് സ്വർണവും നെതർ ലാൻഡ്‌സ് വെള്ളിയും നേടി. ഒരു വേളയില്‍ ചൈന അയര്‍ലണ്ടിന്റെ വെങ്കല നേട്ടത്തെ അട്ടിമറിക്കുമോയെന്ന ആശങ്ക പോലുമുണ്ടായി. എന്നിരുന്നാലും അതിനെയെല്ലാം മറികടന്ന് ചൈനയെ 200മിറ്റര്‍ . പിന്നിലാക്കി വിജയമുറപ്പിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അയര്‍ലണ്ട്.രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില്‍ ചൈനയെയും ബ്രിട്ടനെയും ഇവര്‍ മറികടന്നു. ബ്രിട്ടനെ 1500 മീറ്റര്‍ അകല നിര്‍ത്തിയാണ് അയര്‍ലണ്ട് നേട്ടം കൊയ്തത്.
സീ ഫോറസ്റ്റ് വാട്ടര്‍വേയിൽ പാതിവഴിവരെ നാലാം സ്ഥാനത്തും പിന്നീട് അഞ്ചാം സ്ഥാനത്തേക്ക് പിന്തള്ളപ്പെട്ടു.എന്നിരുന്നാലും രണ്ടാം പകുതിയോടെ ടീം ലീഡ് നേടി.തുടര്‍ന്ന് കിയോഗ്, ലാംബെ, മുര്‍താഗ്, ഹെഗാര്‍ട്ടി ടീം കരുത്ത് തെളിയിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
